Preserved nature, a symbol of leaner photo storage
Responsible approach

Save what matters for the environment.

We're committed to giving you a high-performing online storage service while reducing its carbon footprint as much as possible. And we all have a role to play in this effort.

Published on 15 July 2026 · Photoweb Cloud

As you know, Photoweb Cloud is a 100% French service. Our team lives and works near Grenoble, a hub of advanced technology and a region with strong environmental convictions.

For many years, we've offered our users a service designed to save energy and resources. We still have work to do, but here's what we do in practice:

Data centres in France

Our servers are hosted in data centres, all located in France, which let us finely manage our electricity consumption according to demand.

Refurbished hardware

When hardware needs replacing, we refurbish the machines involved and assign them to secondary tasks, with no direct link to your data.

Fewer, better-targeted emails

We limit our email sends, in both frequency and volume. That saves energy for sending, and also for storing messages in your inboxes.

Good to know: a gauge is available within your space (in the menu at the top left of your screen). It measures the carbon footprint impact of your storage. With this information in mind, you can act effectively.

Saving what matters means managing your storage space and your shares better.

But these efforts make no sense without your support. You can choose a leaner way of using your space.

On top of taking concrete action, following these tips will make your space clearer and more pleasant to browse, for you and your guests alike. Let's go!

  • Only import the photos and videos that truly matter, and delete any blurry, badly framed or unimportant images.
  • Optimise your storage: enable the "don't import duplicate files in the same album" option. That way you won't use more storage than necessary.
  • Don't shoot 4K video if it's only going to be watched on your phone or tablet.
  • Lower the capture size on your camera or phone for everyday photos. No, you don't need a 17 MB photo to show off last night's restaurant dish!
  • Only send invitations to contacts who are genuinely concerned and potentially interested in your posts.
  • On your phone, set a backup frequency that genuinely suits how you use it. If you only take a few photos a week, choose a weekly backup rather than a daily one: you'll avoid unnecessary connections.
Key points

Simple habits, a leaner cloud.

This list isn't very long, which makes it easy to follow. The most committed among you will probably have suggestions to take it even further — we'd love to hear them.

The world is changing. And so are we.
